Arrival and departure

Arrival any day in Spirit of Africa, check-in from noon. Departure any day from Spirit of Africa, check-out before 10 AM.

 

Vaccination

Spirit of Africa is located in a malaria free area. No treatment or special vaccination necessary. Insect repellent is provided to our guests free of charge.

 

Tips/gratuities

Usually, one can give at least R100 per guide daily, R50 for the tracker and R50 for the cleaning, kitchen and service staff, if you wish to thank the staff of the lodge, but without any obligation.

 

Cell phones

Most of the lodge is covered thanks to a signal amplifier. We don't have any landline.

 

Internet

Spirit of Africa provides wi-fi internet access.

 

Fax

Fax service available.

 

Electricity

220V. Euro adapters are provided.

 

Passport & visa

Passeport with at least 6 months validity and one free page (for the tourist visa delivered by the customs upon arrival), currently, the visa is given free of charge and for 90 days stay.

 

Children

For security and peacefulness, children are accepted only from 14 year old.

 

Clothes and equipment

Tall year round, hicking shoes, hat, camera, camcorder and binoculars.

 

Climate

Summer : November to April, hot days and nights (25°C-35°C). It's also the rainy season with an average of 450 mm rain per year only. Usually there are only a few rainy days spead all along the season. Light clothes (neutral or khaki color) and swimsuit. No  malaria treatment necessary.

 

Winter : May to October, cool nights but pleasant day temperature (20°C-30°C during the day). Quite no rain, only some cloudy moments from time to time. Plan warm clothes for early morning and late afternoon safaris. Light clothes during the day and swimsuit to enjoy relaxation or swimming.

 

Driving

In South Africa, vehicles drive on the left hand side of the road.

Operating a hand held cellphone is illegal when driving.

The wearing of seat belt is compulsory.

Usual speed limits : 60 km/hour in urban areas, 120 km/hour on main roads and freeways.

Domestic livestock and wild animals have right of way on all roads. This constitues a dangerous and often frustrating hazard.

Pedestrians and cyclists are also a serious road hazard, particularly on freeways.
